Public Swimming Pool & Spa Program

Hancock Public Health licenses and inspects public swimming pools and spas to protect Hancock County residents and visitors as they swim at community pools, country clubs, fitness centers, hotels, apartment complexes and other public swimming locations. Inspections are required to be conducted at least once per year, but most licensed pools are inspected more frequently. Inspection reports for our licensed public swimming pools and spas can be found here.

Public swimming pool rules are developed and adopted at the state level in Ohio Revised Code 3749 while licensing and inspections are conducted by Hancock Public Health. The swimming pool rules are designed to keep swimmers safe and healthy while enjoying recreational activities at public swimming pools. Public swimming pools and spas are inspected for water quality including disinfection residuals, pH, alkalinity, clarity, temperature and other water quality standards. Additionally, safety requirements are checked including perimeter barriers, safety and first aid equipment, and proper lifeguard training if lifeguards are required.
